The Power of First Principles
In our quest for better health and performance, we often get distracted by trendy solutions and quick fixes.
A friend who manages wealth once asked about a protocol suggesting he shouldn't eat fruit before noon. The response? It's like someone telling him to put 40% of his wealth into cryptocurrencies – an idea that contradicts fundamental investment principles.
First principles are foundational truths that, when you hear them, often sound obvious. "Get 8 hours of sleep" or "eat real food" might not be exciting advice, but they're the bedrock of health.
These principles don't grab attention like the latest biohacking trend or supplement, but they consistently move the needle.
The beauty of first principles is that they keep us anchored when faced with endless distractions. While a new sleep-tracking device might sound revolutionary, it won't compensate for consistently getting only 5 hours of sleep. The basic principle – getting adequate sleep – matters more than any technological enhancement.
When building any aspect of your life, start with first principles.
Once those are solid, you can experiment with optimization. But never let the exciting new thing replace the fundamental old thing.
