Some thoughts on getting your mind into fifth gear
Hello, hi, š
Happy Sunday to you, my friends. Iām going to go finish watching Avatar 2 with my boys, so letās not delay. (š„ + āļø = š)
Hereās what we put out in the world this week.
PUT YOUR FERRARI MIND IN DRIVE
Our friend Chris Irwin has this great way of describing our mental capacity: we all have a Ferrari engine of a mind. Incredible capacity. Built for speed and performance.
And most of us are letting it idle in a parking lot.
We consume instead of create. We scroll instead of solve. We let AI do our thinking. We watch seven-second reels of nothing and wonder why we feel empty at the end of the day.
Hereās the thing about a Ferrari: itās not meant to sit. Itās meant to move. To perform. To be pushed.
Our minds are the same way. They need resistance. They need challenges. They need to be used for what they were built for.
Think about what we did yesterday. Did we learn something new? Did we build a skill? Did we create anything? Or did we just consume content that someone else made while our own capacity sat unused?
Weāve entered this era where we outsource everything. We outsourced our physicality to cars and machines. Now weāre outsourcing our cognition to AI and algorithms.
And just like our bodies got weaker when we stopped moving, our minds are getting weaker when we stop thinking.
Mental fitness works exactly like physical fitness. It requires intentional effort. It requires discomfort. It requires showing up day after day to do the work.
As Chris points out, we can read about jiu-jitsu for years and never be able to do it. We can understand music theory and never play an instrument. Knowledge without application is just entertainment.
The Ferrari doesnāt run itself. We have to get in. We have to turn the key. We have to drive it.
Our minds are waiting. Letās stop letting them idle.

Golf is one of the most mentally demanding sports in the world, and Laura has become an expert at helping athletes master their minds under pressure.
