🤔 SOME THOUGHTS
I have a friend who's going through a rough patch - the kind of rough patch where the wounds are fresh & the path ahead is covered in the fog of fear.
It's hard to know what to say in times like that. You want to give advice or tactics, but I find a simple framework more useful.
It starts with a question: How are you using your TEAM?
See, we all have a TEAM at our disposal - one we’re always relying on, one that’s always present, one that dictates our progress or lack thereof.
Our TEAM:
Time (our most finite resource)
Effort (our daily energy)
Attention (our focused presence)
Money (our tangible choices)
How well we use our TEAM determines the quality of our lives. Too often, we spend them without intention & the recognition that there are tradeoffs:
When we spend our attention on the past, we have less to spend on the future.
When we spend our money on status symbols, we have less to spend on health.
When we spend our time on Netflix, we have less to spend on sleep.
Spending your TEAM without awareness is like snipping a hole in your pockets & getting mad when you find them empty.
So, I left my friend with a simple exercise:
To grab a journal each night & ask yourself where your time, effort, attention, & money went today. Don't judge yourself for the answers. Then, ask yourself where you want your time, effort, attention, & money to go tomorrow.
This short exercise will help create awareness around how we’re spending our TEAM & set the intention of how we might spend it a little better.
Like so many things in life & health, a little better over a long enough time horizon is enough to change everything.
