🤔 SOME THOUGHTS
Many of us are handed a blueprint for what matters: career achievements, material success, social status. But if true fulfillment came from these default settings, surely we’d all know far more happy, healthy people than we do.
So, the first step toward a life of excellence is doing the uncomfortable work of questioning these inherited values. We must ask: When I strip away others’ expectations, what truly matters to me?
When we have some answers, next comes everyday bravery in the face of relentless distractions.
These distractions aren't just external noise — status games and others' priorities— but also internal battles with our egos, fears, and judgments. True courage lies in maintaining focus on what's hardest to measure but matters most: our peace of mind.
Why courage? Because the gravitational pull of that original blueprint is strong & attractive, & to deny it feels like a risk.
The final truth is counterintuitive: peace of mind isn't a peaceful state but an active pursuit.
Like physical fitness, the path to excellence never gets easier; you simply become more capable of handling ever-greater challenges.
Most people quit when they realize this, expecting the journey to become comfortable. But lasting fulfillment comes only through embracing and working through the continuous discomfort of living on our terms.
These three practices — gaining clarity, maintaining courage, and embracing the worthy challenge — aren't just principles to admire.
They're muscles we must strengthen daily.
